my first garden book is full of exciting gardening projects for young children to do at home. every page reveals something new to try -- from growing exotic plants on the window-sill to creating fabulous indoor and outdoor mini-gardens/5(1). A guide for the first-time gardener. Every stage of planting and maintaining a garden is tackled using clear step-by-step colour illustrations. There are also planting suggestions for borders, kitchen gardens and containers.

A unique feature of this book is that it shows growing flowers from bulbs and seedlings, in addition to starting from seeds, and explains the steps and time of year for each. Many different flowers of each color of the rainbow are shown. I do find the first part of this book gets a little tedious if you spend too much time name everything pictured.   "The Story of Gardening," by Penelope Hobhouse and Ambra Edwards (Princeton Architectural Press) It's an opportune time for an update to this lavishly illustrated history of gardening and landscaping.

Keep your garden close to you. One of the (many!) disadvantages of our first garden was the distance from our home, not only for watering purposes (see #6!), but just in convenience and familiarity. Our new little garden is a part of our yard; we tend it frequently because we see it all the time. Get this from a library! First-time gardener. [Kim Wilde] -- Eager to wear gardening gloves but feel lost in the garden? Full of practical tips and detailed step-by step instructions, The First-Time Gardener is the beginner's guide to gardening.
